Better Than A Valentine
What is a Valentine? According to the dictionary, it is a sentimental card, message, token, or gift sent by one person to another. The term may also refer to a sweetheart chosen to receive such attention or affection.

While it is possible and appropriate to share such sentiments at any time of the year, we are most attentive to it on a particular day: February 14, known as Valentine’s Day.
Rather than go into the history behind the special day or the role of cupid or the best gift ideas, I have a higher consideration. There is a love which far exceeds the joy and warm feelings that come from any February 14 gestures. It is a love that is available to everyone, regardless of relational status. A love that is not subject to expiration, withering, tarnishing, melting, or returning for a refund. It’s better than a valentine… it is the love of God.
Jeremiah 31:3b – I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued My faithfulness to you. (ESV)
John 3:16 – For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. (ESV)
Romans 5:8 – But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (NKJV)
John 15:13 – Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. (ESV)
Romans 8:38-39 – For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (NKJV)
1 John 4:8 – Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.
Spend some time this day (and every day) appreciating and sharing the love the God! “We love because He first loved us.” (1 John 4:19)
